This is a therapy were Hypnosis is used, so what is Hypnosis:
Hypnosis is a state of altered awareness, a trance like state. It does not involve sleep, and even though you have your eyes closed you are aware of your surroundings and in total control. Hypnosis can not be forced on people but it is a state that they allow themselves to enter.
In the clinical setting Hypnosis creates a very pleasant state of physical relaxation, which in itself is beneficial, especially in the symptoms aggravated by stress. In the Hypnotic state you can be open to suggestions for the process of healing problems that are causing you distress.
Psychotherapy is the application of psychological knowledge for the treatment of those who are suffering from illnesses of a psychological nature.
CBT (cognitive behaviouralg therapy)
CBT is a therapy which helps people to change negative thinking into positive thinking. This can be done by giving them tasks to do eg. homework, to ensure they have an active part in their own progress. The aim is to build up their confidence and low self esteem. It works very well in treating depression and phobias.
Visualisations engage the imagination into seeing what is being told to them by the therapist, they can be used to rid people of unwanted thoughts and replace those thoughts by positive pleasant things.
Counselling involves listening to the person, with reflective listening, that is to relay back all the negative things that have been explained to the therapist in a more positive way.
Mnemodynamic therapy is a technique used to access the inner child, that is a person can go back to any time of difficulty which has had a lasting effect on their mind even without them realising it was significant at the time. The situation can be re-assessed and the harmful effects removed or subdued.
